Sharing Reports

Make your reports accessible to stakeholders, team members, or the public by configuring report visibility settings.

Visibility Types

Reports support two visibility modes:

Private

Default setting - Report is only accessible to authenticated users in the dashboard.

Access:

  • URL: /dashboard/reports/:slug
  • Requires login to Logstyx
  • Only users with access to your Logstyx instance can view

Use cases:

  • Internal team dashboards
  • Sensitive metrics and data
  • Work-in-progress reports
  • Reports containing confidential information

Public

Report is accessible to anyone with the URL, no login required.

Access:

  • URL: /reports/:slug
  • No authentication needed
  • Anyone with the link can view
  • Read-only view (no editing)

Use cases:

  • System status pages
  • Stakeholder dashboards
  • Public transparency reports
  • Customer-facing metrics

Making a Report Public

During Creation

  1. Click Create button on Reports page
  2. Enter Report Title
  3. Select Visibility: Public
  4. Click Create

The report is immediately accessible at its public URL.

After Creation

  1. Find the report in your reports list
  2. Click the Edit icon (pencil)
  3. Change Visibility to Public
  4. Click Save

A link icon now appears next to the report in the list.

Accessing Public Reports

From Reports List

For public reports, a link icon appears next to the visibility badge.

Click the link icon to open the public URL in a new tab.

Direct URL Access

Public reports are accessible at:

https://your-logstyx-domain/reports/{slug}

Example: https://logs.company.com/reports/system-status

The slug is the URL-friendly version of your report title.

Finding the Slug

The slug is visible in the browser URL when viewing the report in the dashboard. It's also shown in the reports list link.

Public Report View

When viewing a report via public URL:

  • Label: "Public View"
  • Report Title - The name of the report

Widgets

  • All widgets display normally
  • Data refreshes when page loads
  • No editing controls - Refresh, edit, delete buttons are hidden
  • No drag-and-drop - Layout is fixed
  • No resizing - Widget sizes are fixed

Read-Only Experience

Public viewers can only:

  • View widget data
  • See the report layout
  • View the report at the time they access it

Public viewers cannot:

  • Edit widgets
  • Add/remove widgets
  • Change layout
  • Refresh individual widgets
  • Access other reports

Sharing Best Practices

Security Considerations

Before making a report public:

  • Review all widgets for sensitive data
  • Ensure no PII or confidential information is exposed
  • Check filters don't leak internal details
  • Verify data sources don't contain secrets

For sensitive reports:

  • Keep visibility set to Private
  • Share dashboard access instead of public links
  • Use appropriate project permissions

Public URL Sharing

Share the link via:

  • Email to stakeholders
  • Internal documentation
  • Status page widgets
  • Public websites (embed via iframe if needed)

URL format:

/reports/{slug}

Copy the full URL from your browser when viewing the public report.

No Built-In Copy Button

Currently, there's no "copy link" button in the UI. Copy the URL directly from your browser address bar when viewing the public report.

Converting Between Visibility Types

Private to Public

  1. Click Edit icon on the report
  2. Change Visibility to Public
  3. Click Save
  4. Link icon appears in reports list
  5. Report is now publicly accessible

Public to Private

  1. Click Edit icon on the report
  2. Change Visibility to Private
  3. Click Save
  4. Link icon disappears
  5. Public URL becomes inaccessible

Immediate Effect

Visibility changes take effect immediately. Public URLs stop working as soon as you switch to Private.

      height="600px">
    </iframe>

Troubleshooting

Public URL Not Working

Problem: Public link shows error or requires login

Solutions:

  • Verify report visibility is set to Public (not Private)
  • Check the slug in URL matches exactly
  • Ensure report wasn't deleted
  • Try accessing in incognito/private browser window

Problem: Can't find link to public report

Solutions:

  • Verify report visibility is Public (check badge)
  • Refresh the reports list page
  • Link icon only appears for PUBLIC reports

Cannot Change Visibility

Problem: Edit modal won't save visibility changes

Solutions:

  • Ensure you have edit permissions
  • Check network connection
  • Look for error notifications
  • Try refreshing and editing again

Public Report Shows Old Data

Problem: Public view doesn't reflect latest changes

Solutions:

  • Public reports load data fresh on each access
  • Refresh the public page (not the widgets)
  • Check if widgets have time range filters
  • Verify data exists in selected time range

Privacy & Security Tips

Before Going Public

Review checklist:

  • ✓ No sensitive customer data exposed
  • ✓ No internal system details revealed
  • ✓ No API keys or secrets visible
  • ✓ Filters don't leak confidential info
  • ✓ Time ranges are appropriate

Secure Sharing

Best practices:

  • Only share URLs via secure channels
  • Consider using password-protected pages (external tool)
  • Monitor access if possible
  • Regularly review public reports for sensitivity
  • Remove public access when no longer needed

Data Considerations

What public viewers see:

  • Only data from widgets you configure
  • Filtered and aggregated based on your settings
  • No access to raw project logs
  • No access to other reports

What public viewers don't see:

  • Dashboard navigation
  • Other reports
  • Project settings
  • Raw log data
  • User management
